In Italy, there are some name for restaurants,
Ristorante
The term came into use to describe elegant and sophisticated dining establishments. They assert the most decorous service etiquette, and require many, many forks.
Trattoria
Generally much less formal than a ristorante, but more formal than an Osteria. It means "Bistro" in English.
Osteria
It was originally a place serving wine and simple food. Osteria tend to be cheap, and they also focus on after work and evening refreshment.
Pizzeria
A pizza restaurant, they make pizza and sell.
Trattoria Rosemarino
This trattoria is very popular, even weekday we need a reservation. This is close to " Piazza de Ferrari" and they serve very good food and wine.
Baccara brandacujun
Il Genovese
This restaurant serve very good Genovese pesto, means Genova's pesto. It was born in Genova! It traditionally consists of crushed garlic, European pine nuts, coarse salt, basil leaves, and hard cheese such as Parmigiano-Reggiano or Pecorino Sardo, all blended with olive oil. In the restaurant, we can buy their Genovese pesto.
I Cuochi
This is on the narrow street but inside is very nice and not big size. the staffs are very kind and friendly.
Osteria di Vico Palla
This is casual restaurant on the street. When we went there, we sat down outside
table. At first not crowded, However when we finished our lunch, the all tables
are packed. We think this is very popular for locals.
Also there are lots of " Focacceria" in Genova. This light food, Focaccia, is good for breakfast, snack and so on.
